What UK car insurance companies will consider my Canadian driving experience?

Q) I recently exchanged my Canadian driving license for a full UK license but insurance quotes are so high because most companies only consider that I haven't had my full license for more than a year (in fact I have had a full Canadian license for 8 years). The insurance companies also don't seem to consider that I have had no claims on my Canadian insurance for 8 years. Does anyone know of a UK car insurance provider that will consider foreign driving experience in their quotes?

Does UK car insurance cover the driver or the vehicle?

A) Allways the driver never the vehicle a policy will cover policy holder only policy holder & spouse policy holder +any driver policy holder+ named driver(s) Your own policy may let you drive vehicles not registered to you (with the vehicle owners permission) but this is getting rarer these days but even if your policy is F/Comp you cover is limited to T/P only the safest thing to do would be to contact you insurance company/broker for clarification good luck best wishes

Why are UK Car Insurance Premiums so high compared to the rest of Europe?

Q) After a quick browse on the nest I found that similar conditions and parameters when applied to Germany, France, Switzerland and the Netherlands produce quotes that are at least half to a maximum of 70% less. Also, continental insurers are not asking too many questions. I was never asked about, where I park the car, if it has a tracking device, if there's CCTV in the area or what brand the alarm system was. Does anyone know why these UK premiums end up so much more expensive? (The one reason I can imagine, is that insurance gets much less exposure in advertising in those European copuntries compared to UK). Any answers appreciated.

A) Well, this is not a professional answer and is only an opinion but I feel that the French and other such countries would not stand for the high premiums we have to pay and would do something about it such as strike. Its the label of RIP OFF Britain that comes to the front of my mind again where insurance companies charge as much as they can get away with hence higher fees.

A) That's amazing considering they had a conviction and a ban for drunk driving. Most under 25s have to pay almost that as it is!

How much would a new driver expect to pay for their car insurance (UK)?

Q) I'm 16 and will soon begin driving lessons, and every company I go to online to find a quote asks for my name and address, and until I need the insurance i'm not going to enter them. Does anyone have an idea how much a 17 year old would expect to insure a first car (something small like a Vauxhall Corso, Renault Clio et al)?

A) If you want an accurate quote then you'll need to enter an address I'm affraid. The quote will take the postcode into account and this can impact the premium significantly. You could always enter some details close to yours but not exact. Some companies will hound you as soon as you get a quote, especially off the price comparison websites. I agree with the set aside a day for quotes. The price comparison websites make it a bit easier, but not all companies are listed on them and any quote given needs to be taken with a pinch of salt as whenever I've used them the premium has gone up when I finalise the quote for some aspect that the price comparison website doesn't take into account. Some of the best companies aren't listed so you need to go to them directly. I'd imagine £1000 to £1500 a year for a standard Clio or Corsa with say a 1.0 or 1.2 engine. Higher spec or any modifications would put the price up significantly.

A) You can't do it for ALL companies as they all want different information. Confused.com is a broker and will ask several insurance companies. Unfortunately there is no way round the leg work of form filling. Alternatively ask you friends who they use. As long as they are the same age and drive a similar car that will give a good comparison. Me I am 42 and drive a Mazda 5 Diesel and I use Direct Line.

Car Insurance (UK)- Am I allowed to register as a new customer when I am a current customer?

A) As your policy is up for renewal you can go where ever you want. The online discount is because of the lack of admin they have to do. Make sure cover is like for like. I would be upset they hadn't offered you the lower terms but as I said lack of admin. You will be fine to stay with them. They should be more than happy to keep your custom.

E Car Insurance - Anyone know this company? UK?

Q) I am a first time driver and just bought my first car, i have been looking on the net for Insurance Quotes and came across a site called E Car Insurance. The quote i got from them seems unbelievable. It is at least £400-£500 cheaper than anyone else i have been quoted from. I just wonder whether this company is legit and if anyone has their insurance already with them. It just seems too good to be true!

A) They do exsist. have you tried: www.moneysupermarket.com or www.confused.com I use them to find car & house insurance.

Q) i have car insurance with one car i have full no claims discount,i now am thinking of running another car in my name so i got a quote for this car from my insurance company,.they said as the second car i want to insure i have none no claims discount i have to start again and earn it,.So if i get a quote from a different car insurance company,will these conditions still apply to me. if i get a quote from a completely different insurance company do i still have to earn my no claims disount as i will then have two policy's with two different car insurance company's.

A) Tugboat i wrk for Quinn Direct Insurance in Ireland and legally u can only use your ncb on one car at a time............So if u do purchase a second car under ur own name u will be starting again to earn a new ncb on this car. The other ncb has to remain on the other vechicle, thats the law unfortuantely! But if u just want to transfer ur insurance from one car to another (so u will only have one vec still) u can use ur ncb on it.....So in a nutshell. U can only use ur ncb on ONE car at any time!

What are the American Car Hire Insurance Regulations (specifically florida)?

Q) Hello All, I am going to the states (Florida) in a few weeks and have arranged a hire car through Dollar. I have just found out that the rate I have been quoted does not include insurance. Can anyone tell me how the car insurance system works over there? With UK car hire it is included as it’s compulsory to be insured, is this the case in the states or are the rules different? A) Sorry but you are going to need full insurance (not sure of the price nowadays). It is a common practice that the people that sell cheap or free car hire will then charge the earth for insurance. Take a look at this website www.uscarhire.co.uk We always use them and have never found a better deal. Absolutely everything is included insurance wise, so the price they quote is the price you pay. Contact your agent or Dollar to see how much insurance would be then check out the site above and you will probably find it is cheaper to use them than pay for insurance.
