About Travelling

, [Spain].Travel is the [transport] of people on a trip/journey or the process or time involved in a person or object moving from one location to another. Reasons for travel include:
  • [Tourism]—travel for [recreation]. This may apply to the travel itself, or the travel may just be the necessary investment to arrive at a desired location.
  • Visiting friends and family
  • [Trade]
  • [Commuting]–going to various routine activities, such as work or [meeting]s.
  • [Human migration]—travel to begin life somewhere else; [nomadic people] do this
  • [Pilgrimage]s—travel for religious reasons

The word originates from the [Middle English] word travailen ("to toil"), which comes from the [French language] word travailler ("travail").

Travelling Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth?

Q) I am currnetly nr Cairns at the mo and moving down back to Sydney on Saturday to be there by 27th April, when i get back i would like to travel to Melbourne, then Adelaide, then Perth. Does anyone have any ideas which would be the best, but cheapest way to travel, i dont really wanna fly, i would ike to see as much as i can whist traveling though, if you do could you please also let me know a web addess of the best and cheapest way of travelling. Thank you in advance. Andrea

A) The Sunlander Travels from Cairns to Brisbane (www.traveltrain.com.au) The Countrylink has a express passenger train from Brizzy to Sydney and Sydney and Melbourne (www.countrylink.com.au) Great Southern Railways Run the overland train from Melbourne to Adelaide (10 hours).(www.gsr.com.au) And the Indian Pacific From Sydney to Adelaide to Perth, 65 hours from Sydney and 45 hours from Adelaide to Perth. (www.gsr.com.au) Otherwise Buses from Cairns to Brizzy, Brizzy to Sydney, Sydney to Melbourne, Melbourne to Adelaide, but i do not recommend catching the bus from adelaide to Perth, as its a really boring 40 hour trip that gets very uncomfortable on a Bus.... But the other journeys would be alright i think by bus. (www.greyhounds.com.au) It would be cheaper tho to Fly, especially from Cairns to Brizzy, and Brizzy to Sydney, and Sydney to Melbourne. But the Overland and Indian Pacific are not overly expensive! Hope that helped... Happy Travelling........:)

Travelling in England?

Q) Question Details: I will be travelling in England over the next 3 days. I am American and not sure what to expect as far the places being closed due to the Easter Holiday. Will restaurants/pubs/etc. be closed this weekend because of Easter? I will be travelling by car and want to make sure that I am able to fuel up as needed...will gas stations be open? Nothing closes in America for any holiday. You can even get a meal on Christmas day. I'm not really sure how this works as it is my first visit to England. I am staying at an American friend's flat in London who is in America at the moment, so I don't really have any direction as to what to do. I plan to travel and see as much of England as possible, but if things will be closed due to the holiday then is it best I stay in London for Easter Sunday itself? I know lots of questions... Ok, Thanks guys. You have no idea how much I appreciate this information. I actually was in London last week before I went to The Netherlands for business so I have done a lot of the London touring. As far as the first two comments go, really not a big deal. And you shouldn't feel like you have to apologize for other people. I know how that feels...I also feel like I am constantly having to apologize on behalf of ignorant Americans. This is a strange experience being in England and feeling so lost. I grew up in Asia and had less difficulty, no joke. I did grow up in a Chinese country where people drive on the same side of the road as America, and I speak Mandarin, and was a lot younger so I guess it was easier to adapt to the differences. Thanks a bunch.

A) Most things will be open. No problems at all finding food or fuel or pubs. Lots of places of interest open at Easter & continue till late summer. Have fun. I'm sorry about the 2 idiots above. We're not all like that, promise.

Travelling Long Distances?

Q) I have qualified for the Festival of Champions up in Glasgow this year and live in Dumfries. The journey would take approximately 3 hours (6 hours travelling all together) - is this too far for my horse? We've got a trailer. Don't want to put him off travelling as he's never really travelled for longer than an hour and a half before. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

A) He will be fine, we travel up to 32 hours and we stop every 3 hours for a break and to move the horses (competition) horses, it is not necessary for you to unload in a 3 hour trip and ofcourse its always safest to not have to unload. People travel horses all over the US, those not traveling for competition typically do not get unloaded even at 10 hours as the horse does not have to be performance ready when it gets to the other end. Transports typically will stop the vehichle to let the horses eat/drink and rest there legs from vibration of the road under them while driving but many never unload. Give yourself plenty of time to get to the other end. CONGRATS and GOOD LUCK!

Travelling through China - Help Needed!!!?

Q) China Travel – Help Needed planning on travelling through Chinabut not sure how to get to each stop. I mainly want to travel at night, using sleeper trains, where if possible we have the option of 2 bunks, and if not 4 bunk carriages. My partner and I think this would be best as we can then sleep over night, and be in good form the next day should we need to take a bus anywhere. Please find below the itinerary we would like to do: Arrival into Beijing From Beijin I would like to go to Pingyao (do I need to change at Taiyuan or can I get a direct train to Pinyao. Then from Pingyao to Xi’an Then from Xi’an to Chendu Then from Chendu to Leshan Then from Leshan to Chongqing Then from Chongqing to Guilin Then from Guilin to Yangshuo Then from Yangshuo to Hong Kong. I have found it very difficult to find this information online, esp. prices. would prefer trains that offer 2/4 bunk carriages pref2.Info on ticket price for each journey would great great and times! Thank you!

A) You should find all you need at one of these two sites. http://www.china-train-ticket.com/ http://www.chinats.com/train/

Travelling?

Q) can you tell me if a friend of mine who lives in India needs a visa to travel to Dubai for a week?

A) I would suggest your friend to contact either Emirates or Air Arabia offices in India, they will assist him/her obtaining a visit visa. Air Arabia is a budget airline so the fares would be more competitive. Or you can contact any hotels or travel agencies in Dubai. They will arrange the transit visa but the charges will be high.

travelling...?

Q) my son and i are leaving on a trip tonight. what are some ways i can keep him calm througout the flight? the last time he flew he was 6 weeks. he's 7 months....so nothing really holds his attention span that much.

A) My daughter and I travelled when she was 7 months too. I brought a lot of toys which she didn't end up using on the plane. Although, she did had a good time with one toy which I attached to her stroller when we were at the airport. It was a cloth book that has teethers on the sides and a mirror-like thing on one of its pages. What I found out helpful while on the plane was having different things to eat. I brought her some baby goldfish crackers, gerber graduates cookies arrowroot, and gerber graduates crackers. I also brought her favorite gerber sweetpotatoes (for lunch!) And I made sure she had water before we went aboard (but you can ask water in the plane though). Because she's not hungry, she just dozed off to sleep. Hope this helps...

When travelling 50 lightyears with 99.99% the speed of light - how much older do you get those 50 lightyears?

Q) If we could travel with 99.99% the speed of light, and we would travel 50 lightyears with that speed, how many years does one get older? Isn't it so time (and aging) goes slow when travelling at very high speeds? (Or is that ONLY compared with someone on an object of which the rocket skyrocketed? And the one travelling really will age exact 49.995 years and not less?) If so, then if we could reach those very high speeds in the future, then people could 'easily' travel to other habitable planets, gaining only little age! (And even travel back evenly fast, gaining evenly less age? Sounds weird...) If my above assumptions are correct: can someone calculate for me how much someone would age travelling 50 lightyears with 99.99% the speed of light? Maybe 99.99% isn't enough, but maybe we could get to 99.999999%? Anyway, travelling with the exact speed of light or higher, seems ridicilous to me; one would need all the energy in the universe, if E=mc² is correct. (Somewhere above i mentioned 49.995 years. I ment 50.005 years.) Uncl Al, if i understand you correctly, such a traveller would gain only 258 days in age travelling those 50 lightyears? I think Unle Al is the one who gave the best answer. As i just found out: "a constant 1 g acceleration would permit humans to travel as far as light has been able to since the big bang (some 13.7 billion light years) in ONE human lifetime." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_dilation) At least, 4 people (until now) gave a completely wrong answer (about 50 years).

A) The relativistic scaling factor is beta, sqrt[1 - (v^2)/(c^2)]. For 99.99% lightspeed, beta is 1.414%. 50 years Earth-time is 0.707 years ship's time or 258 days. There is no way, including matter-antimatter annihalation - to boost and brake transportation through deeply relativistic speeds. "The Starflight Handbook," Eugene Mallove and Gregory Matloff, 1989. The observer who travels through the most space experiences the least time.
