Swimming pool ladders for disabled?

Q) I have an above ground pool, and my daughter loves to swim in it, but she is disabled, and quite large, the ladder we have isnt wide enough for her to turn at the top and walk down other side of the ladder. I can find plenty at various heights, but none at a wider width. Does anyone know where i can buy one, or will we just have to make one with the frame we have? A) My uncle has an above-ground pool and recently put in a ladder similar to the one in the link. However, he had a wooden deck built around the pool. You might want to consider having a platform built just for the lift or ladder, effectively raising the "ground" level and making it an "in-ground pool." http://www.planetmobility.com/store/pool-ladders/rehabe-systems/ladder/index.html

I fell off a swimming pool ladder and hit the ground hard with my left foot?

Q) The pain was somewhat intense, but it let up soon afterward, its been about 5 weeks now, and it seems to be actually getting more sore. It is the upper part of my foot not the heel, any ideas or suggestions? Thanks

A)

Did you ever put your SIMS character into a swimming pool and take away the ladder?

Q) Muhahahahaha! >: )

A) Yes - I also teleport lots of friends over, lead them to a certain room where I start a fire - and take away the door, that's fun too.

Will powder coating last in a swimming pool?

Q) the ladder for my pool has been corroding and the paint is peeling off due to the chlorine? I've been pricing them out on the internet and they are more than I would like to spend. I am thinking about having the one I own powder blasted and powder coated but will the powder coating last in the water with chlorine in it? My guess is yes, seeing how most powder coating is made to withstand high heat and other chemicals like antifreeze and oil. Just wanted to hear what others have to say.

A) Powder coat will do fine in your pool. There are a few different formulations to choose from ie. epoxy, hybrid, polyester, etc. Your best set for a pool would be TGIC polyester. It has good UV resistance, abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, and is available in a wide range of colors. You can even have a color custom matched but it's rather expensive. Avoid epoxy-based powder coats as they don't hold up in the sun and will get ashy/chalky after about a year. For added protection you can chem-film and/or primer the item prior to powder coating. There are a lot of choices/options and any knowledgeable powder shop will be glad to sit down with you and discuss your specific needs. Good luck.

In clark county ohio what are the swimming pool requirements?

Q) My daughter's neighbor just put in an above ground pool. They do not have a fence or a locking ladder on their new pool. My daughter has 3 young children and she is afraid that they will sneak out and try to enter her pool. What should we do?

A) It is state law in Ohio that she MUST put a fence around her pool. According to Ohio law a pool is 'an attractive nuisance'. It is her duty to make sure that local children are kept out. The fact that it is her property has NOTHING to do with it. She threw that argument out the window when she put the pool in. Not only a fence, but a fence that is the proper height with locks. It must be kept locked at all times. Unless she is out there to keep the kids out. If she doesn't listen to you when you tell her this, call a lawyer. Most lawyers will do the inital process (calling her and writing the letter to her for free/or a flat fee). If it gets messier they will want paid. I'm going to give you the link to the Ohio State that talks about this. I'll post it when I find it. http://ohioline.osu.edu/als-fact/1007.html The attractive nuisance doctrine is tort law - civil remedy not criminal. If a criminal act has occured like the death of a child there is a potential for criminal liablity. In order for the attractive nuisance doctrine to apply it must meet ALL five of these conditions: 1. The landowner knows or has reason to know that children are likely to trespass in the area of a dangerous artificial condition 2. The artificial condition poses an unreasonable risk of death or serious bodily harm to children 3. The children cannot discover the danger of the condition or realize the risk posed by the condition 4. The utility of the condition and the burden of eliminating the danger are slight compared with the risk posed to children 5. The possessor fails to exercise reasonable care to eliminate the danger or otherwise protect the children

There are little things in my swimming pool that look like tadpoles!?

Q) The pool is above ground and is 4 feet, so I don't see any way a frog could have gotten up the ladder and back out! Does anybody know what these things are??? Thanks!

A) Frogs CAN jump.. it COULD be tadpoles.

Do you know if there is such a thing as built in steps in an above ground swimming pool? I?

Q) I don't want the ladder style entry.

A) yes there are i don't know the brand or anything but i have seen them. they are not permanent but offer considerable stability and easy access in and pout of the pool, highly recommended.

Swimming Pool Problems-I cant get full prime?

Q) All filters are debris free and pvc lines have been vacuumed out w/a wet vac,all pvc connections were given a second coat of contact cement w/ the pump on to seal any hair line cracks.Back wash, filter and rinse still no good prime.Could it be the ladders inside the sand trap plugged? There are no apples in the lines! HELP!

A) You are probably right. The ladders and tubes inside can get clogged a lot of times from the sand being old or worn out. You should change the sand and clean everything out inside about every three years. Thats if you are using a high grade pool sand. Some people use play ground type sand which in this case should changed out every 1 to 2 years or seasons. I hope this helps. Good Luck!

'Handle' Bars on bar counters?

Q) I always go to bars and nightclubs and have always wondered what that bar thing was on the bar. It kind of looks like a swimming pool ladder. Does anyone know what I am talking about? Why is this there? They are really taking this whole 'bar' thing literally. LOL

A) That is called the service well. It "blocks" off or marks the area so to say so that people don't sit at that part of the bar. It's the place where you or the servers can get their drinks.

I have unusually sore shoulders from swimming, am I doing something wrong?

Q) Two months ago, I started swimming laps for exercise. For the first 6 weeks, it felt great and I was progressivley getting stronger. Latley, though, my shoulders are getting really sore, (especially my right one). By the end of a 600 meter set, I can barely get my right shoulder to function correctly, causing me to get sloppy in my strokes. It just refuses to go "over the top" like it should and sometimes I find myself flailing more than swimming. Could there be something wrong with my stoke that I need to work on?I dont have someone else there at the pool to watch me swim and can't afford swim lessons or daily massages, but I need to keep in shape and really like swimming. I usually swim "ladders" (now at 200, 300, 600, 300, 200) with a warm up, cool down and about 30 seconds in between each distance. Could this be the problem? It seems that my shoulders hurt less if I do shorter distances with longer breaks - but this doesn't get my heartrate up to where I want it.

A) It is interesting that you mentioned that your shoulder would not go "over the top." I would suggest technique drills. A high, bent elbow is critical to efficiency. You do not want to make a large circle with your hands, but rather, bend your elbow so that your upstroke starts with your thumb touching your hip, moves alongside your body up to and touching your ear, and then forward stretched out in front of your shoulder before the downstroke. Practice this as a drill slowly, keeping your elbows high, consciously touching your thumb to your hip, ear and water. You might also practice a drill called "fingertip drag" in which, after the ear position, you drag your upper fingertips (slightly folded back under your palm) along the surface of the water until full stretch and downstroke. This will force you to keep your elbows high and bent, shortening the overall movement of the upstroke making it more efficient, less force on the shoulders and more compact. Remember, technique is everything.

Pink scum in pool?

Q) I uncovered my upground pool today and discovered pink-fiberish hairlike scum all over the pool, especially on the ladder. When you pick it up, it feels like a lot of snot but its easily seperable and pulled apart. It's really nasty and theres a lot of it. The PH was way too low so my dad threw some chemicals in. But we're baffled..what is this pink scum?? is it some sort of growth? Is my pool safe to swim in?

A) What you are describing sounds like the problem commonly called "pink slime". It doesn't sound as if it is partcularly dangerous, only nasty to have around. Take a look at these sites and see if this is your problem: http://www.parpool-spa.com/Page/Help/Pool/Pink_Slime.html http://www.gordonavenuepoolcentre.com.au/WaterChemistry/Handover/ALGAE.HTM http://www.hydrotechpoolproducts.com/troubleshoot.html http://www.kingtechnology.com/infostation/challenges.htm Good luck!
