Where do I find a portable air conditioner for a small car ( Hyundai accent 1998)?A) There is no such thing. It used to be you could get space coolers, that worked on evaporation, like RV airconditioners, that plugged in the cigarette lighter. I have not seen them for some years, but you might find them in pawn shops or second hand store. And actual portable aircon would have no way of exhausting the heat from a car interior.
You can try looking for something called a swamp cooler, that fit in the window before built-in aircon units, but it will likely cost you $300 or more for a unit that is possibly 50 years old.small air conditioner?Q) i need a small air conditioner for my room but i have very small windows .. my window is only about 13 or 14 inches wide and i need something that will fit .. if there arent any this small, is there a cheap portable air conditioner ?? my budget for this is about $200 .. any help would be greatly appreciated .. thanks ahead of time
A) Will my portable Air conditioner 12000 BTU be damaged if I use it in a small room like 130 Square feet?Q) I'm using the Amcor ALD12000E for rooms up to 400 Square feet, but right now I have it in a 130 square feet room which is pretty small... I read on some websites that it's not good for the AC.. is this true? Will my portable AC be damaged if I use it in smaller rooms?
A) Ditto the above answer plus an oversized air conditioner, because it doesn't run as much, doesn't do a very good job of dehumidifying the air, either. Can you open the room to a surrounding space? Is there a portable air conditioner that does not require draining of liquid condensate?Q) I live in Southern California on the second floor of an apartment complex. There is one wall mounted AC in the living room, but it doesn't even begin to reach my room when turned on full blast. I need to get a portable ac for my bedroom (relatively small in size) since the window configuration does not allow a traditional window mounted unit. Of all the ones I've looked into, the only fault customers have consistantly complained about is that a tray of some sort needs to be placed under the air conditioner to collect the water removed from the air, and it tends to spill all over the floor when trying to drain.
Is there a model that would allow the draining of the water through a tube connected to the window in small amounts (I don't want to rain down buckets of water on people walking down below), or maybe even an innovative new design that bypasses the need to collect and empty condensate all together?
Thanks :D
A) Some of the more expensive ones have evaporators in them so they don't need a condensate drain.Portable air conditioner/air cooler?Q) Ok im looking for something that's portable (very small..like something you can hold in your hand) air cooler..or air conditioner, whatever it may be called. Battery powered would be my top choice...anyone know of any in mind? (IF you're going to provide links..direct links to one would be grand, not 'something like it' or anything indirect.) I had one from sharper image (worked splended) but i lost it and i don't even remember the name of it...thanks for your time!
A) The only thing that is going to be a small enough to hold in your hand and run on batteries is going to be a fan.
Other than that, most true air conditioners are going to be at the smallest around 16 by 12 inches, give or take a couple of inches and there is no way those are going to be portable or run on batteries.
Now I have heard that they have these fans that you can put ice into and then blow that air into the room. That is less costly than air conditioning and will actually cool the air whereas a fan will only circulate it. You won't probably be able to run it on batteries, however. Can anyone recommend a good portable air conditioner that doesn't vent through a window - 12-13,000 BTUs?Q) Have seen Edgestar brand and Boston Innovative Products. Reviews are mixed. Just need it for a relatively small area - 400 sq. ft. or so.
A) For that small of space, consider a de-humidifier and a fan as a back up. Just by getting the humidity out of a room makes a big difference.Where can I find an extra window kit for a portable Haier air conditioner?Q) I have a portable Haier room airconditioner. The window kit is too small for my window (there is a gap of about 6 inches). I have not been able to find an extra window kit anywhere. Does anyone know where I can get one, or have any other suggestions on what I can use?
A) You might be able to make a window kit from wood paneling or plywood. Remember to measure twice before cutting the wood panels. And the interior and exterior could be painted to match. How do you install a portable air conditioner in a horizonal-sliding window?Q) So my two questions are:
1. Portable air conditioners come with an exhaust hose and window-kit. Will this window kit work with both vertical and horizonal-sliding windows? My window is 42.5 inches tall therefore the window-kit would have to go up that high.
2. Which portable air conditioner do you recommend for a small to medium-size bedroom that will work with this window? I have been looking at Royal Sovereign, Amcor, Soleus Air, DeLonghi, SPT, etc... But I have no experience with these. Thanks a lot!
A) Portable Air Conditioners - Do they really work?Q) We have a really small apartment (900 sq ft) and it faces south/west (maximum sun exposure). The building does not have air conditioning and the windows are not desigend to support standard window mounted air conditioners.
We are nervous to buy a portable air conditioner. I read consumer reports and they gave portable air conditioners very poor ratings.
Have you tried them and do they work? If you have had a positive experience, which one would you recommend?
A) I have 2 portables in my apartment and they keep the whole place cool in the summer.......My apartment is HUGE and has 3 bedrooms........I love the A/C's and recommend them to anyone.....We bought 2 cheap ones 5 years ago from WalMart and they are still working great!!!! Good Luck and stop sweating....LOLNeed to purchase a portable air conditioner, which cools better.?Q) I Lived in apartments and it get very hot, have small kids.
THanks !!!!!
A) Most portable ac units use a fan to blow air across water to cool. The water level needs to constantly be refilled, and while the units do cool, they do not work as good as an air conditioner. I've used both a portable (from Target, around $100) and a window air conditioner unit (Target, around $100), and am much happier with the window unit. The biggest problem I had with the portable unit is that I could not run it at night because you have to have windows and doors open to use it. That is not a safe situation where I live!
