Gift Vouchers as Gifts ? Opinions Please.?

Q) Hi, I know this might sound a like a stupid question but I have always wondered why we recieve gift vouchers for gifts instead of just the money, as nowadays you can get gift vouchers that you can use in shops anywhere as there is alot more chioce now. Also do people like getting gift vouchers for presents, if so why and if you dont why ? Im asking this question because for years, I couldnt see the point in getting vouchers as I used to think that there was hardly anywhere to spend them and sometimes I used to recieve them just for one shop. But now a days. I am finding it really hard to get people presents and thinking of buying gift vouchers so they can get what they like. Instead of me spending the same amount on a prezzie they dont like. I could always give cash, but I dont know weather people are offended by recieving cash, as a gift voucher looks more nicer. I personnaly dont mind weather its cash or a voucher. Im just wondering what other people will think. Thanks I was thinking of getting those high street ones or the one4all that the post office do now. As Ive looked in shops and just can find anything as all it mainly is, is smellies and not everyone likes smellies and most people I know cant use them. and not everyone likes chocolate either. A I wasnt thinking of getting gift vouchers for like just one store as I think there just pointless, but these let you spend them in most shops, I know it might seem like its just easier than looking for a present, but Im not giving vouchers to my husband or mum or dad, as I know what they like, but Im thinking for my brothers and there girlfriends,as I dont have a clue what to get them as there all different. I know the girlfriends are into fashion etc. but I dont know there size etc so I can just go in an get whatever top. and I know I can give them the recipt to take it back. But that dosnt feel right. Where as if I give them a voucher and theres a a pair of boots or jacket they like and they have money to put too then they could do this. they would also come in for the sales I dont know what to do. When you havent got much money to get them a decent prezzie and want to contirbute to getting something they want I think this could be a good idea with the vouchers. I know some people see vouchers as being lazy, as they get older, but I find it really difficult to actually chose the gift. I was in a shop today looking for prezzies, and there were lots of bath product gift sets. I picked on up, then another, then put one back and got another then just couldnt decided altogether. So I got in a flap and walked out with nothing. Im to bothered by wheather the person will like the gift or not, as I know that it will just go to waste if they dont like it, I dont know why its got this way for me now,ahhhhh

Q) How do you buy gift vouchers for people to spend in other countries?

A) you'll need to go to the host countries shopping sites that will take credit card payments from you, choose one you want and have it sent to the person you would like to send it to, they will convert it to the proper currency/

I purchased gift vouchers on eBay and the envelope arrived wripped?

Q) I purchased some John Lewis gift vouchers on ebay, and when the envelope arrived it was ripped with tape all around it covering the rip. i have contacted the seller, and he said he put no tape on it - and the post office would not of accepted the envelope with tape around it as it was sent recorded. What should I do? Contact PayPal and make a claim (but the seller didn't do it), or contact Royal Mail and say what?

A) Contact Royal Mail. However, they will just laugh. Sending vouchers through the post is the same as sending cash and you shouldn't use Recorded Delivery for these items. Recorded Delivery items go in the normal mail. On the other hand, special delivery items are insured up to £500 (more if you pay extra). Personally I think the seller has ripped you off. He seemed to have the answer ready too quickly. Why would you sell John Lewis vouchers on eBay anyway? The seller could have used them himself, online or in a store. No way would he have sold them for less than their face value.

I sold Gift Vouchers on ebay for £250 - the buyer said the envelope arrived ripped with no vouchers inside?

Q) The vouchers were £400 worth which can be used in Currys or Dixons. The envelope was delivered by recorded delivery, with the rip taped up. The buyer has requested a refund, but i purchased the vouchers for a lower price off a mate - so I would be loosing out. I don't have proof the buyer didn't rip it themselve. Where do I stand? What happens if she opens a dispute with PayPal, I have proof of delivery so that may help my case.

A) she is lying!!! If you sent them recorded delivery, you would have been contacted if their was ANY damage to the parcel or envelope also if they were damaged she shouldn't have signed for them!!! Id put good money on it that shes taken you for a ride!! Contact eBay and explain the situation, i don't think your responsible for this at all! I know this is a bit far fetched but is there anyway you could contact Dixon's and Curry's and ask them if these vouchers have been used? Did you keep the serial numbers or anything that could identify them?

Why do gift vouchers have a monetary value of 0.01p?

Q) On any sort of vouchers, it always says that the have a cash redemption value of 0.01p. I was just wondering why this was. Thanks in advance!

A) It's to prevent you from claiming the money. It's usually 0.001p which means that you'd have to collect 1,000 vouchers to have the legal right to claim 1p.

E-Bay,Has anyone brought Gift Vouchers? or Postage Stamps? Were they legitimate?

Q) When I say Postage Stamps I mean current stamps for useing on your mail,not stamp albums. With vouchers,I can understand someone may recieve one from granny for a shop you they don't use.Its just some sellers seem to be offering lots....! UK,question

A) I have bought postage stamps (particularly useful around Xmas time) and vouchers. The vouchers the seller had received as a gift but did not want to purchase anything from that store. If seller has lots of vouchers to sell in different listings then maybe you should be cautious because they may be stolen or copies. Check out the seller's feedback before you bid. Good Luck.

Can you buy Ebay gift vouchers / tokens?

Q) My sister is Ebay mad and I thought it woud be a good Christmas gift.

A) Yes you can. You have to go to eBay.com (American site) and you buy a value in dollars, which is then converted to sterling. You then get the option of just having eBay e-mail your sister with all the details, or you can opt to print out a gift voucher to present her with. Either way, you get a code that you input at the checkout which deducts the amount of the balance. I did this for my brother for his birthday last year & works really well. P.S. Do you reckon it's safe to send money/gift vouchers through the post?

Q) I'd put an offical label on it and maybe some paper to surround the money/vouchers. Any tips?

A) I send money orders through the mail all the time. I just fold it in two pieces of paper so you can't see it through them, you can with one sheet.

Love2shop high street gift vouchers?

Q) nowhere in my town will accept them phoned up & one person said our batch is fine another person said if they have argos on them (which they have) then no one will accept them i'm at my wits end can anyone help

A) Hi, you need to contact park christmas savings club (park hampers), they will ask you to return them special delivery and then send you new ones out. Its the £10 ones that are affected as there are fraudulent ones going round. I know this as i work for park hampers!

Q) gift voucher as bad as money as a Valentines gift? she likes books but I'm not sure what book she has not read yet, so thinking of getting a gift voucher?

A) Each person is different for me as a female i prefer gift cards but because it is Valentine's day buy her some chocolates or flowers to go with the voucher!

I can't think of any real nice restaurants in Liscard or Wallasey but not far away is New Brighton i used to live there it is nice, & easy to get to - will only cost about £5 from Liscard in a taxi Here is a list of resturants that may be able to help. My mum has accused me of stealing gift vouchers?

Q) It is my little nephews third birthday in a few days time and my mum has shoe vouchers saved in a card for a present. When she went to the card today she say's there are £60 worth of vouchers and she swears blind she had £90 worth saved. I did not ever look in the envelope (I never knew it was there) and no-one else has been in the house. I am sure she is mistaken as to how many vouchers she had. I feel really really low at the moment and I cannot believe she would even think I could steal from anyone let alone my own nephew. What shall I do?

A) I prayed when my mom lost her wedding ring that it would be found, it was but it took some time. She didnt accuse me but I knew she was thinking it. A) I feel like when I buy them for people it's so impersonal, like a last-minute gift. However, I LOVE getting them! My husband and I had accumulated quite a bit of gift cards from Christmas and our birthdays. We spent last Sunday spending them all- from our lunch to our mini shopping spree! It was so much fun!!

A) a gift is a gift.. if it is tacky and distasteful,, you already know if it is for something good, and sincerely given, it should be ok. just don't take out your first date to dinner with coupons, and you will be o.k.
