Where can I get a knitting pattern for Shooting Stockings or free info?

Q) My mother used to hand knit my shooting stockings but has lost the pattern. They are all made with high wool content and have various tops, some fancy and multi coloured others are plain crochet

A) I wasn't able to come up with a free one. Here are links to free sock patterns (perhaps one can be adapted) as well as to a book that has a pattern for shooting stockings. I found a class (in California and not free) but here are hints for the type of stitches used: Socks - Top Down - Gentleman's Shooting Stocking Join us for this top-down sock class which uses "The Gentleman's Shooting Stocking" pattern from Vintage Knits by Nancy Bush. "This sock has a French heel and a Kitchener stitchToe. Materials: fingering weight sock yarn and size 1 or 2 double point needles. And here is a picture of them as well as comments and more tips, although you may have to break down and buy the book. They are gorgeous.
