A) There are some made that are portable and some are built-in. You just need to carefully examine the style that you buy and ask the dealer if it is child-safe. One major danger with ventless gas stoves is the possibility of carbon monoxide poisoning.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_monoxide_poisoninghow safe are vent free gas fireplace logs?Q) Is there a problem with fumes or carbon monoxide?
A) Very safe. The oxygen depletion orifice is fail-proof.. (under normal circumstances) but always use a carbon monoxide detector anytime gas appliances are employed. Actually an excellent bargain in that you have a 99.9% efficiency rating on vent free products. Is it safe to hang a plasma tv above a vent-free gas fireplace?A) Only if there's

minimal heat in that area.Pilot light will not stay lit on my vent free natural gas fireplace - why?Q) I have a vent free natural gas fireplace. It has worked fine for the past 7 years. Today when I tried to light the pilot, it will not stay lit. Lights fine but when I release the button, it goes out. Any thoughts as to why this is happening?
A) Most likely it's the thermocouple. You need to hold the button for a minute or so when lighting, to allow time for the flame to heat the thermocouple... Have a look at the pilot flame too, in case it's just corrosion that doesn't allow a nice pilot flame to actually heat the thermo couple. Can someone please explaine to me how a desa vent free fireplace works if its vent free? thanks.?Q) Its a corner free standing vent free gas fireplace.
A) Everything you need to know about Vent free fireplaces;
http://www.ventfree.org/AnswersToComments.htmConverting wood burning fireplace to vent free gas logs. Tapping off of existing gas line. What matl's to useQ) Will be tapping off of existing gas line by replacing elbow with tee. 3/8" black iron to manual safety shut-off valve mounted on the hearth stone. What material to be used in the run from valve to burner? I will need to drill through the bottom of the fire box for the run from the valve to the burner.
Should 3/8 black iron be used and then use a flex line from the penetration point to the burner? Or can the flex line be used to make this run from the valve to the burner?
A) You need to use the black piping from the safety valve to the burner. The gas logs will come with all the piping that you use inside the fire box. Your local Gas Log supplier will have literature for you on how it's done. Good LuckWhat is the difference between a vent free and a vented fireplace?Q) Besides the vent what makes it safe to use a vent free gas fireplace?
A) A question or two for "gassy" folks...vent free gas log vs. vented?Q) After a long miserable wait, I'm nearly ready to install my gas fireplace. I will be having a pro do the work, but I want to have a bit of knowledge so I'll know whether some salesman is blowing smoke up my rear. I am in the US in a state that allows the use of Vent-free. I'm told other states and Canada do not.
1. I know a vent-free is more efficient and produces more heat, but is it safe to use as a heat source? I have friends who say their oil furnace never kicks on b/c the gas log heats the whole place.
2. Do you get substantial heat from a vented log?
3. I have a great looking firebox for a vented log. The kind that has glass on two sides and can be intalled in the wall and actually have the fireplace in two rooms...if I go with the vent-free logs, can I use this wonderful firebox which I got at a heckuva deal?
4. Is it possible for the firebox to be jacketed and the resulting heat be directed throught the ductwork with a blower?
A) We replaced a word burning fireplace with unvented gas logs. The logs produce little heat and are more for a cozy appearance than anything. I'm not knowledgeable about your technical questions. I miss everything about my natural wood fireplace except the mess it produced. Wish I had known to ask the questions you have. I payed VERY well for something that is not particularly efficient.Vented vs Vent Free Fireplaces?Q) We are looking at installing either a vent free or vented natural gas fireplace. We have a 50 year old house with a chimney. Currently, we have a wood burning insert. What are the pros and cons of the two types of fireplaces. .
My understanding is that vent free are more expensive but give off much more heat. The vented models are less expensive, require use of your chimney, and appear more real. Is their anything else to look for?
A) FIREPLACE - need info on type to install in my 400 sq ft masterbedroom. Gas? Wood? DirectVent? Vent Free?Q) I like gas-only fireplaces, but are they costly to operate?
I like contemporary, minimalist "ribbon of fire" fireplaces (which look great), but do they give off much heat? (Heating capability is important to me.)
A) I have a vent free gas log fire place that puts off a lot of heat. The vent free is best because you don't have your heat (money) going up the chimney. Therefor it is not that costly too burn. Also the more BTU's the logs put out will generate more heat thus using a bit more gas.
In a smaller room I have a gel log fireplace. Unfortunately they are not for heat, but they give a great appearance. These are self standing and many of styles of mantles to choose from, and no installation involved. When you see on TV a talk show with a nice fireplace in the back ground, that is usually a gel log fireplace. To get the fire you simply set a couple of cans of gel behind the logs and light them. It gives off a great flame and crackling sound as well. Check out www.realflame.com .
