How far is it from Big Pine Key, Florida, USA to Brooks, Alberta, Canada?

Q) I took a Greyhound bus from Florida to near Calgary to meet my wife for the first time. That was four years ago, and we were married six weeks later on July 14, 2002. I always wondered how far I travelled those three days.

A) You traveled 3,136.53 miles which took 48 hours and 16 minutes.

If I do key words about USA questions and sites while in Vietnam does it pull the same screens as I do here.?

Q) My wife is in Vietnam and she is having trouble with questions about appartments in Tampa, Florida.

A) You have to make sure that you log onto Yahoo, United States. There are many English speaking countries with YA forums.

I'm going to give you a list of places. Which ones do you think are endangered by rising sea levels?

Q) Buenos Aires, Argentina Venice, Italy Hawaii, USA New York City, New York, USA Miami, Florida, USA Tokyo, Japan Auckland, New Zealand Nosy Be, Madagascar Hong Kong, SAR of PRC Athens, Greece Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Barcelona, Spain Long Beach, California, USA Key West, Florida, USA San Juan, Puerto Rico Vancouver, Canada If you see a place that should not be on that list, please tell me why. These are all places I want to visit. http://www.motherjones.com/news/feature/2007/09/sea-change-26.html I care about all coastal cities and their people. But these places are just the ones I want to visit. It is not meant to be all-inclusive.

A) If global warming causes sea level to rise by several meters. all these places will submerge, totally or partially, but as the expected rise of sea levels will be gradual you could plan to start visiting the places that are going to drown first - Venice, Manhattan, and Florida. and by the way, you forgot to mention New Orleans, or is it one of the places you consider too late to visit, because they are already drowned.

Is it possible to swim from Cuba to Florida?

Q) Cuba is 90 miles from the Keys in Florida. This Cuban guy told me that he waited for a storm one day and the day after when the storm had died down he started swimming to the USA and that is how he got here. Could this story be possibly true? He said he waited for the day after the storm because this is when the ocean is the calmest and the risk of getting side tracked by the ocean currents is low. Supposibly the currents going from East to West cause many Cubans coming to the USA to miss the Keys or southern tip of Florida and to end up drifting around in the Gulf of Mexico somewhere! He said Castro had just given permission for anyone that wanted to to leave the Island and a lot of people had started making their way by boat during the storm. That there were at some points dead people and turned over boats floating around that didn't make it the night before. And that this is what saved him from the sharks because they were feeding on the other dead people and so left him alone Are there any swimmers out there that have swum 90 miles or that believe it is possible to swim 90 miles? This story just sounds so hard to believe.

A) The guy who told you this....must be joking. 1) There are lots of sharks in these waters. Several Cubans tried to reach Florida by rafts..and a lot of them died. 2) There are frequently storms and rude sea 3) When captured by the US Coastguard they are sent back to Cuba ( this means they go to jail) unless they have touched US soil ( wet foot/dry foot policy) Don't try this ...it's suicide. I don't believe this. vic http://www.havana-guide.com additional info READ THIS: http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9B01E0DC1E39F930A25756C0A961958260

A) Right now from the looks of it in my back yard! (Tampa Bay)

16,185 MURDERS; 92,837 RAPES IN USA...Should we use the 27 BILLION Spent on ILLEGALS to hire more cops?

Q) WASHINGTON (Reuters) - More murders and robberies in 2006 sent U.S. violent crimes higher for the second straight year, the FBI said on Monday, with the increase blamed on gangs, youth violence, gun crimes and fewer police on beatsCities with big increases in the number of murders included Orlando and Miami in Florida; Oakland and San Diego in California; Phoenix, Arizona; Corpus Christi, Texas; Grand Rapids, Michigan; Reno, Nevada and Little Rock, Arkansas. Even though the higher violent crime numbers had been expected, they still represented bad news for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, who has targeted violent crime as a top priority for the U.S. Justice Department. A department study released last month of 18 metropolitan areas cited more violence by local gangs or street crews, a greater prevalence of guns in the hands of criminals and younger, more violent offenders as key reasons for the rising crime http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070604/us_nm/usa_crime_dc_1

A) Yes... cops and the border barricade, border patrol... shipping illegals back to wherever they came from... and more cops. It's high time we enforce our laws... ALL of them!

A 90% Cancer Cure Diet using Flaxseed Oil & Cottage Cheese?

A) This is all lies. I hope that neither you nor a member of your family get cancer (though you have a 1-in-four chance) and choose to follow this nonsense rather than actually having the disease treated. Think about how bogus the idea is that you can treat or prevent all cancers with the same thing! Do you for a moment entertain the idea that a crushed skull and a broken toe indicate the same treatment? Cancer is hundreds of diseases, not one... This person is trying to make money by selling an idea to sick people instead of treating them, which I find despicable.

A 90% Cancer Cure Diet using Flaxseed Oil & Cottage Cheese?

A) This is unfounded and the use of oils in prostate cancer may worsen the condition. For other cancers and conditions, the diet is sound from a nutritional standpoint although unsupported by peer review as a cure for cancer. However, it should do no harm. But there is no miracle cure.

Scuba Diving Training?

Q) I am planning on becoming an OWSI and wanted some input on which schools are better than others. In the USA, there are some good ones in the Florida Keys, but I have also found one in Pattay Thailand. What extra courses should I be certified in and any input on quality schools would be great. Thanks.

A) Any school is good if the instructors are good. I would rather get certified in the US and also do my Advanced dives in the US. Non-western countries tend to be lax on scuba instruction. Does not matter who the agency is: PADI, NAUI or SSI.. as long as it a good school with enthusiastic instructors.

Where could I get into? (Florida Universities)?

Q) Hi, I'm applying to UF, FSU, UCF, and USF. I was wondering about people's opinions on whether or not I could get in to any of them?? Anything you could tell me would be great. White Male Freshman and Sophomore year in Canada, Junior and Senior year in the USA. In-State. 3.91 unweighted GPA, 4.25 weighted GPA. (over 3 years) By graduation 10 honors courses, 5 AP classes, 7 AP exams, 4 dual enrollment courses. 1250 (1920) SAT, 28 ACT. Note: Since then, I have done practise tests and improved to about a 1300 and a 29-30, re-testing soon. 150+ hours of community service, mostly at hospital and animal shelter. ECs: Student Government, Mu Alpha Theta (Vice President), National Honors Society, Spanish Honors Society, Key club, Interact, school newspaper, French club, Fashion Show, cross-country, tennis, track and field. I also speak fluent French, and have been playing the piano for 11 years. Thanks in advance! NOTE: If you know of anywhere "better" (more prestigious) where you think I could go, let me know.

A) It sounds to me as though you could get into any of the above schools. My daughter graduated from USF and she liked it there. Tampa's a nice city, with lots to do and lots of local history. UCF should be a pretty sure thing. Orlando has certain advantages and although it's a pretty crowded area, it's still nice living there. UF and FSU would be more difficult to get into, but with your GPA and test scores, you'd probably stand a fighting chance at either one. I guess the weather could be a factor in your personal decision, and of course the main thing would be what you want to study. Each school has a reputation for some specific fields of academics. And there's the sports thing. If you're into College sports, then you'd have some choices to make. In all, I'd say that the ball is in your court as to where you'd want to go. Check online and you should be able to find out what the schools require. Good luck in whatever you decide and enjoy College. It's the last stop before reality....
