Travel from Edinburgh airport to Murryfield?

Q) OK, this is my problem. I have tickets to the rugby world cup game between Scotland and N.Z on the 23/9. Obviously the airlines have not added on flights (why would they...) so I am left with 2 options as I need to fly back to London that evening. 1] From Edinburgh airport @ 20.20 2] From Glasgow airport @ 21.25 (much cheaper) The match kicks off @ 16.00 so it should be over at about 18.00-18.10. My question is - taking into account that it is a Sunday, but that there will be 67000 rugby fans with me, how long (and how) will it take me to get toEdinburghor Glasgow and which is the better option? I really hope that someone can help - thanks.

A) I am not sure of the exact timetables, but citylink buses run at approximately half hour intervals. You would probably have to change at Buchanan Street to get to Glasgow airport, but I hope this helps. The attached links are for this month as the timetables don't appear to be that far in advance, but it should give you an idea. PS. do you have a spare ticket?

What's the best way to travel on Open final day from Carnoustie to Edinburgh Airport - train or car?

Q) I'm going to the final day of The Open. I've a flight to catch at 10pm from Edinburgh on Sunday night. Train travel seems to be easiest from Carnoustie to Edinburgh but concerned that trains will be overwhelmed by the crowds and will be difficult to get back. Anyone got ideas?

A) The trains are very well organised for The Open - regular buses run from the course to the station and the trains set up to deal with the expected numbers. I've been to a few Opens both by car and train and the train is much better. Carnoustie is a small place and it's roads are not designed to deal with the volume of traffic there is on the final day (or any other for that matter) - sometimes it can take over an hour just to get out of the carparks especially if it is a close finish with most spectators wanting to stay till the end. Take the train! Or, make friends with one of the top players and get a ride in their personal helicopter!

Travel to Edinburgh Via Bristol Airport?

Q) Can any one help me i want to know the cheapest return flights to Edinburgh via Bristol

A) British Airways and Easyjet used to be the only airlines that flew Bristol to Edinburgh. Speak to your travel agent. Alternatively, visit the Bristol and Edinburgh airports websites to see all the airlines that fly out of both ports. Speak to the airlines that fly between the two to see what fares they can give you.

Cheapest Airlines For Flights From UK To Other UK Airports?

Q) I want to be travelling from either Glasgow (either of the 2) or Edinburgh airport...though preferably Glasgow to EAST MIDLANDS airport. I can't afford to pay a lot as the reason I want to be at EMA is to get on a flight to Copenhagen. I would get a train but check-in time is 12.40pm. Help please? Thanks Kirsty

A) BMI baby is the only budget airline to fly GLA-EMA or EDI-EMA, they've usually not that expensive depending on how early you book. (My brother had the same problem!) Check out www.whichbudget.com, its great for finding out which budget flights fly where

Glasgow/Edinburgh to Murryfield?

Q) Asked under Edinburgh and now trying Glasgow (don't want to upset anyone...) My problem is - I have tickets to the rugby world cup game between Scotland and N.Z on the 23/9. I really hope that someone can help - thanks.

A) Lets take Glasgow first - if only because you are trying your luck there. The quickest way between Edinburgh and Glasgow is rail and if you got the 1904 train from Edinburgh Haymarket, you should be in Glasgow at 1951. Get a taxi from the station rank and you should be at Glasgow Airport by 2025. Now, although Haymarket is a mile from Murrayfield, there is no guarantee that you would actually get there in time, and, if you did, whether you would even get to platform 4 for the train! Edinburgh is slightly easier. There is an express service 100 and a stopping service 35, but you might be better starting to hoof it along Corstophine Road and hail the first taxi you see. It ought to be a 20 minute ride, but on an International afternoon, well, ...... If I was forced to choose, I would have to plump for Edinburgh Airport (and pray for a minimum amount of injury time!)

Airport security - justified or a step too far?

Q) My parents have just booked a flight for the three of us to go see my sister in Southampton at xmas and I've been informed by them that I cannot wear boots on the flight. I thought this was a joke but apparently when my sister was visiting last week she was stopped at Edinburgh Airport and told to remove her Caterpillar boots because she could have a device hidden in the thick soles! I read over the conditions we got with our e-tickets and it seems that this is correct. I usually wear knee high boots in the winter but now I'm going to have to wear shoes or trainers for the flight. Is it just me or is this too much? I'm not disputing that we all have to be vigilant when travelling but does it really matter if I wear boots or flip flip flops? If someone was determined enough to carry out an act of terrorism such as blowing up a plane surely they would have thought up new ways to hide the devices? Will the next step be a strip search for everyone or am I just being silly?

A) I live in Canada but take my fare share of US trips. And in all US airports, EVERYONE takes off their footwear and has to xray them. Ever since the incident where explosives were smuggled on-board in the soles of shoes. I usually try to be ready for security and have shoes that are easily removed and put back on. But yes, if they are telling you that you can't wear them is excessive. Because they could easily screen them. Sounds like they are being lazy. Especially for winter time travel.

How best and cheapest to get from Glasgow airport to Edinburgh?

Q) I need to get to Edinburgh from Stanstead Airport. Have found a very cheap flight, but to Glasgow (Preswick) instead. Is there transport from Glasgow airport directly to Edinburgh, or do I need to go into the city. Any idea how is easiest to do this trip and how much it might cost? Thanks!

A) By Train The best way to get from Glasgow to Edinburgh is by train. Glasgow Prestwick Airport has its own train station. Trains operate every 30 minutes (60 minutes on Sundays) to Glasgow Central Train Station between the hours of 06:00 - 23:08. The journey time is 44 minutes. Currently the cost of a single ticket into Glasgow Central Station is £2.50. For more details visit the Glasgow Prestwick Airport site or First ScotRail. Trains to Edinburgh from Glasgow run regularity up to four times per hour. A single ticket costs from £8.50. Timetables are available online.

What's the cheapest way to get to Glasgow Prestwick Airport from Edinburgh? Bus/train? How much would it cost?

Q) on a tight budget for travel. we're in edinburgh, catching a flight in glasgow prestwick in the afternoon. train travel seems quicker but we wouldn't mind the bus. would be nice to have the relevant websites as well. thanks!!

A) The cheapest way is to take Scottish Citylink Service 900 from Edinburgh Bus Station to Glasgow Buchanan Bus Station, changing there onto Stagecoach Western service X77. Service 900 takes 105 minutes end-to-end and operates every 15 minutes during the day (every 10 minutes at peak). Service X77 takes 50 minutes from Glasgow to Prestwick Airport, operating every 30 minutes for much of the day (more frequent at peak times; hourly in the evening and Sunday) DO NOT take Stagecoach Western service 4 from Glasgow - it takes twice the time and costs far more than the X77. Most X77 journeys operate into the Airport; the others stop at the bus shelter outside the Airport on the A79. Service 900 stops at other specified points in Edinburgh, such as Shandwick Place, Corstophine, etc. Most service 900 journeys are operated by vehicles in either "Megabus" or "Scottish Citylink" livery. See www.stagecoachbus.com and go onto the West Scotland section thereof for the X77. There is also a through night-time service (only one journey each way) between Edinburgh and Prestwick Airport operated by Dodds of Troon and numbered X99. From memory it leaves Edinburgh at something like 2am in the morning. The telephone number of Dodds is 01292-288-100

Best way to travel from Paris to Edinburgh in August? CDG or Beauvais airport?

Q) I can fly direct from Beauvais to Glasgow, then bus or train it to Edinburgh. There are very few non-stop flights from Paris to Edinburgh, and the cost is high. My husband is nervous about taking the train under the channel, although I hear the train is fun (a bit pricey, though).

A) If price is the problem, then you should definitely go for Beauvais-Tillé. It's the synonym of parisian low-cost ... unlike Charles de Gaulle. So, should you decide to go for Beauvais, there's a coach leaving from the Porte Maillot "Pershing Parking" 3 hours before the flight. The parking's kinda large, can't miss it. The ticket costs 13 euros and the driver will, most probably, ask for your plane ticket. Remember that every flight has its own bus, so once you get there, you might want to ask which is which ... otherwise you may get surprizes. The choice is yours. Have a safe trip!
