JVC Camcorder problem?

Q) I have a JVC digital video camera (model GR-D60EK). It is about 2 years old and is not used often. I went to use it last weekend and when I tried to record it kept asking me to take off the lens cap - which was already off! All you could see was a black screen with a few signs on it.. It plays back the tapes absolutely fine, just has this problem with seeing through it's lens.. Does anyone know how to rectify this problem?

A) This is a known fault with quite a few JVC camcorders including yours, see below: Q. Important Notice to Camcorder Customers A. JVC has received reports that in certain circumstances, a small quantity of units of the models listed below, may, while in the camera mode, show no picture, a distorted picture and/or display "LENS CAP" even though the lens cap is removed. We have identified the cause as a failure of the CCD image sensor. Until 1st October 2007, JVC will cover the cost of repairs of units exhibiting these symptoms. If your product is within the twelve month manufacturer's warranty, please return it to your retailer who will arrange a repair under the terms and conditions of the warranty. Advice on digital camcorders please?

Q) I have been looking at digital camcorders and the JVC models seem to get good reviews, but I am confused by the various models and specifications, can you tell me the best value for money and easiest to use without any prior working knowledge.I am looking at the GZ-MG36,GZ-MG57,GZ-MG500,GZ-MG505;I am leaning towards the MG36 basically on price but any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

A) Dont know much myself but I found these conclutions: Though the GZ-MG36 is by no means a serious user’s camcorder, the GZ-MG36 will appeal to leisure users seeking a high capacity dual-mode device that doesn’t require tapes, and for home users in particular it’s a great entry point into the exciting new world of tapeless digital video. Potential users looking for more accurate picture quality should consider the 3CCD GZ-MG505 model, however. 3CCD GZ-MG505 Given that current HDD video technology is very much in development, the pictures produced by the 3CCD MG505 compare favourably with many single-CCD DV camcorders - perhaps not wholly surprising. At the MG505's highest “U” quality setting its MPEG-2 compression produces excellent results with static or near-static close objects, though definition drops off with the more distant objects in the image – especially foliage in a landscape or a scene with lots of detail. However, its colour resolution, contrast ratio and overall digital stills quality (if you need to combine the role of two devices into one) is very good indeed. Given the addition of an external mic input, accessory shoe and a decent 10x Optical Zoom, there’s no doubt that the GZ-MG505 is a great cam for somebody wishing to bypass tape in favour of a format that’s getting better with each new day. It's not quite up to par with a DV camcorder possessing three CCDs and costing much less, but the gain in terms of portability and accessibility to recorded footage (and stills) makes it a great choice for the home user looking for the convenience of HDD recording and good quality.

I have a JVC digital camcorder?

Q) Ok, i got this JVC GR-D347U camcorder for $200. It is a digital camcorder. But i can't get the videos that i have made with my camcorder onto my laptop. i looked into the booklet and it said that you needed a DV cable to transfer videos i have made to my laptop. So i did buy this cable, but it will not fit into my laptop!! I need help fast! is there someone out there that can tell me what to do. or is there like an adapter i can buy to make the DV cable work on my laptop because it will not fit in my laptop. It tapes with mini DV tabes. how do i get it to fit into my laptop?!?

A) There are two different types of DV (Firewire) cables, one has a fat end and a small end (mostly for PCs), and another with two small ends (mostly for laptops and external DVD burners). Hopefully you can exchange it at the store for the right one. Or you don't have an IEEE card in your laptop, pretty rare if it's sort of new.

Tripod for JVC Digital Camcorder - Model: GZMG130US?

Q) I am thinking about buying this camcorder but I want to know if my current tripod wil work with it. Is there different types of tripods? The one I have has two flat screws poking up that screw into the bottom of the camera. Does anyone have this camera and could tell me if it has the screw in holes.

A) Here I just checked... right in front of the SD card slot, it has one screw hole, and to the left of the screw hole there is a hole with no threads. Just a hole. So 2 holes, one with threads one without. Its a great camera though. But dont expect too much if you connect it to an HDTV. Looks kinda grainy on my 50 inch.

How do I put Multiple Scenes on a JVC digital camcorder for a music video?

Q) You know how they switch from scene to scene on MTV but the music is still playing, how do I edit and put all types of scenes onto one song, do I have to feed it in from 3 different tapes? Seems like the instruction manual said I can 'edit' into a scene, how can a scene possibly move when it's stuck on a tape? My camera has a small mini DV tape, its not 100% digital. Only the workings are digital, not the tape. Thanks everyone!

A) You can compile/edit the music video on a computer. Use the software that came with your camcorder to import the videos to your computer. Then you can edit the scenes (change order of scenes and duration) and add a music sound track. Here's a helpful guide on video editing: http://www.digitalvideoclub.com/basics/editing.php

I want to hook up an external microphone to my JVC digital camcorder. How can I do this?

Q) I heard that you can hook up a pair of headphones, and it'll work just the same. I tried, but when I hooked them into the AV on the camcorder, it didn't work. Any suggestions? That don't require too much money?

A) If your camcorder doesn't have a "mic" input, you probably can't hook up an external mic. If all it has are the a/v cables, those are for connecting the camcorder to a TV to play back tapes. A headphone jack sends an audio signal from the camcorder to the headphones, not in reverse.

I have a JVC Digital Camcorder, Can I use that for a web cam, if so, how?

Q) I am trying to get out of buying a webcam, if I can use my camcoreder, hooked up to the computer, how do I do that.

A) I tried this once. Basically you will need to download some software that uses your camcorder as a webcam- try download.com. The idea is that you can either plug in the Camcorder through fire-wire or through USB. I've had problems with sound when using my camcorder as a webcam.. so you might have to play with the audio settings a bit (or use a seperate microphone) Hope that helps.. if all else fails.. I would recommend just buying a simple webcam (it saves you time in set-up).

Where can I find a software download for a JVC Digital Camcorder (Model # GR-DV800U) so my USB can read it.?

A) you could try CNET.com or the JVC website might have the drivers.

Where can I get a free download in order to use my JVC digital camcorder on my computer?

A) jvc.com support and download it no problem. just need the model number and what operating sys your using. Good Luck and God Bless
